On July 11, 2026, the Afrique-Canada Solidarity Foundation (SAC) proudly celebrated the 2nd edition of the Nations Barbecue while also marking the Foundation's 1st anniversary. This special event was held as part of the Active Solidarity Project, developed under the New Horizons for Seniors Program funded by the Government of Canada.
The celebration brought together nearly 100 participants, including approximately 60 seniors, for a day filled with friendship, cultural exchange, and community spirit. Seniors were at the heart of the event, enjoying a welcoming environment where they could connect, socialize, and actively participate in a variety of activities.
Guests shared a delicious meal, took part in recreational games, and engaged in meaningful conversations and intergenerational exchanges. Throughout the day, participants shared life experiences, memories, and valuable insights, fostering a sense of belonging, mutual respect, and solidarity. These moments helped strengthen social connections and reduce the isolation that some older adults may experience.
The Foundation was also honored to benefit from the participation and support of Les Petits Frères, an organization dedicated to improving the well-being of seniors and combating loneliness among older adults. We extend our sincere appreciation to Mr. Julien Oliva for his presence, encouragement, and valuable contribution to the success of this event.
The success of this celebration would not have been possible without the dedication of our volunteers, who generously gave their time, energy, and expertise before, during, and after the event. Their commitment, enthusiasm, and spirit of service played a vital role in creating a warm, welcoming, and enjoyable experience for all participants.
More than just a barbecue, this gathering was a meaningful celebration of community, cultural diversity, and active solidarity. It highlighted the importance of recognizing and valuing our seniors while strengthening connections between generations and promoting inclusion within our communities.
The Foundation sincerely thanks all participants, volunteers, partners, and supporters whose contributions made this event possible. Together, we continue to build stronger, more inclusive, and compassionate communities for everyone.
